Oral presentation in International Conference by Evans Y. et al., 2023

Evans Y and Diaz-Chavez R. Social participation in and acceptance of the bioeconomy . 31st European Biomass Conference. 5-8 June 2023., Bologna.

-> CooCE partners involved: ICL

This work draws on empirical data from projects that envisage the conversion of diverse types of biomass feedstocks into a wide range of bio-products. A mixed-methods approach was employed across different projects to engage stakeholders and the wider public and help gauge their understanding of diverse facets of the bioeconomy as revealed through these projects. Interviews, surveys, and workshops were all used to discuss their perspectives on biorefinery inputs, processes and products, their sustainability and the policy environment. The results underline the need for much wider social participation in bioeconomy projects, from design through to implementation, for concerted planning and implementation by different stakeholders, and continuous campaigning to enhance awareness and participation in the bioeconomy more widely. This work supported the workshop organised in the same conference for the CooCE project.
