The European Commission defined carbon neutrality as the balance between the amount of CO2 that is released into the atmosphere and the one removed by various means. Achieving this target entails concerted and widespread social and political change. Different countries are trying to achieve it through different measures. One of the measures to achieve carbon neutrality is mitigating emissions with the use of renewable energy. Biomass can play a role in achieving carbon neutrality if it is produced and used in sustainable ways. The possibilities for using biomass for this transition are also linked to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The presentation showcased how this can be achieved with different technologies including CCUS and presented examples including CooCE.
