University of Padua

The University of Padua is one of the oldest and is ranked within the best 100 universities in Europe; it is within the first three in Italy for quality of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and services with more than 60.000 students. The Department of Biology and Department of Agronomy, Food, Natural Resources, Animals and Environment (DAFNAE) were recognized as “Department of Excellence” from the Italian Ministry of Research.

The coordinator of UNIPD is full Prof. Tomas Morosinotto, well known expert of photosynthesis in different organisms; in his research group information obtained from basic research is exploited for the development of new strategies for industrial production of biomolecules derived from microorganisms. Other members of UNIPD, Prof. Stefano Campanaro, Prof. Lorenzo Favaro and Dr. Laura Treu, focus their research on the study of complex microbial communities populating biogas reactors and developing mathematical models for optimal bioenergy production.
